LMCC Swing Space Residency
August  - December 2012

Much of this work was created in response to Lower Manhattan Cultural Council's Swing Space Governor's Island Residency. The work was developed by building small structures using the architecture, landscape, and history of Governor's Island as a starting point, and then developed with painted landscape elements and video. This body of work was exhibited at LMCC's Building 110 Gallery on Governor's Island and in a group exhibition (curated by Kaegan Sparks) exhibited at Westbeth Gallery, New York.

oil on canvas
36" x 48"
This work was created by combining plein air landscape painting on Governor's Island with a studio model set up of "Untitled". The site of the painting is the same site the model is responding to, specifically a memorial plaque depicting the Dutch "buying" the island in June of 1637 from the Native Americans of "Manahatas" for two ax heads, a string of beads, and a handful of nails.
